Task 2 - Intertextuality

Image
Introduction In this intertextuality post, I will be researching intertextuality in a range of different magazines in hopes of applying it to my own product as to better appeal to my target audience by studying how magazines apply to a range of audiences through intertextuality. I will be emphasising what makes these references effective how to apply them. Research Magazine 1 - The Big Issue - The target audience of The Big Issue are 18-49 year old left-wing audiences. Through using ABBA, a famous band the audience would be highly aware of. By using their lyrics in satirical ways through parody and using it as a cover line, it jeers at the right wing politicians depicted, which would fit the audience's political bias. In addition, through increasing the size of their heads by placing them on the band members, it's particularly apparent that it is comedic, but may not only draw attention to the figures in current affairs to increase readership, but also implies they have...

Task 1 - Genre Research

Image
Introduction In this post I am going to be researching and detailing the genre of the magazine I intend on creating. This magazine's target audience is of a middle/upmarket audience who are socially aware. Because of this, I intend on following codes of other general upmarket audiences while also keeping to the current affairs demands of the brief. Using prior knowledge of how institutions function through synergetic convergence and encoding, I can assimilate such into creating a magazine that appeals to such audiences. In addition to this, through research, I will be able to find what appeals to my target audience and what conventions I should follow. Research In this section I will be looking at pre-existing magazines and examining how they appeal to their audiences. Magazine 1 - Prospect -  Large masthead clearly displaying the newspaper institution -  Saturated yet bright colours and painted feel – house style – allows for details to be accentuated – may r...

NEA Briefs

Introduction In this post I am going to select my brief for the NEA and be coming up with ideas as to what I plan to do and giving ideas for later development for both required products. Overall, my plan is to present my ideas clearly in mind maps for later reference and ease of use. My choice of NEA Ultimately, I have decided to choose the magazine brief as I feel that it will allow me to express analytical skills and present a still image that I am more confident in editing compared to a video clip. I prefer still image as well, as annotations and written words are where my confidence lies compared to videography. I also find enjoyment from photography and feel that I would be able to use vital technical skills like lighting and camera angles proficiently and with confidence. Whilst making my product and the website to match, I feel like my picture editing skills will be developed - my specific aim to develop lighting skills, in addition to website making skills. It will also...
